Biography of William Stollmeyer

Stollmeyer, William, Buffalo, son of Henry F. and Mary (Lehde) Stollmeyer, was born in Germany, April 26, 1843. When he was a boy of sixteen be emigrated to the United States, settling in New York city, where he remained for some time, and then went to Cuba, where he was stricken with yellow fever. On his recovery he went to San Francisco, Cal., and engaged in the hotel business, remaining three years, and then returned to New York, where conducted a hotel until 1866, when he removed to Buffalo and opened a hotel at 329-331 Ellicott street, which he still conducts successfully. Mr. Stollmayer has all the qualifications of a good hotel proprietor and enjoys the confidence of his business associates. He served seven years in Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, of the old volunteer fire department. In May, 1866, he married Laura Gentzech, of Buffalo, and they have had seven children, five of whom survive: Oscar, Emma, William, Laura and Bertha.
