Biography of Lee H. Smith


Smith, Lee Herbert, M.D., is one of the eminently successful practicing physicians and surgeons of Buffalo. He is a native of Ohio and was educated in the public schools of Cleveland. In 1868 he removed to Buffalo and in 1874 began the study of medicine at the University of Buffalo, from which he was graduated in the class of 1877. He then began practice in the Invalids' Hotel, where he remained for three years, and at the end of this time he entered Columbia College at New York city, and received his degree from that institution in 1881. Dr. Smith is president of the Board of Medical Examiners representing the New York State Eclectic Medical Society, and has devoted much time to the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, of which he is first vice-president. He is a member of the Western New York Medical Society; of the New York State Eclectic Medical Association, of which he was honored with the presidency; of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society of Microscopists. In 1890 he became a member of the National Guard, 74th Regiment, with rank of captain, being appointed inspector of rifle practice, which position he has since held.
