Biography of James N. Pinner


Pinner, James N., Tonawanda, was born in New York city, October 26, 1828. His father was a native of England, and came to the United States in 1803, afterwards moved to Cattaraugus county, and through life followed the lakes. He married Catharine McIntyre. J. N. Pinner at eighteen years of age left home and went to Buffalo and engaged in the mercantile business. In 1853 he came to Tonawanda and continued in the mercantile business until 1886, a period of thirty-three years. In 1852 he married Elizabeth A., daughter of Elias Roberts, by whom he has had six children; James Franklin, Mrs. Carrie A. Colburn, Mrs. Henrietta Sims and Mrs. Emily R. Hepworth; Henry and Charles are dead. Mr. Pinner has ever advanced the best interests of education and religion, and of his town and townspeople.
