Biography of Leonard A. Lewis


Lewis, Leonard A., Buffalo, was born in Amsterdam, Montgomery county, N. Y., February 13, 1848. His parents removed to Buffalo when he was four years of age, where he attended the public schools. His first employment was in the New York Central office where he learned telegraphy, remaining in their employ for three years. He then entered the L. S. & M. S. office where he remained for a like period, when he engaged in the live stock commission business, forming a copartnership with T. L. Kerr; the firm afterward became Kerr Bros. & Co., then Kerr, Taylor & Co., then the present style of Kerr, Lewis & Co. Mr. Lewis is a past president of the Live Stock Association, also a director of the East Buffalo Live Stock Exchange Company.
