Biography of Miss Amanda Jones


Jones, Miss Amanda, East Hamburg, p. o. Orchard Park.-The late Ransom Jones, Sr., was born in Stiliwater, Saratoga county, N. Y., October 4, 1779; he was educated in the common schools of that early day and was a lumberman and farmer by occupation. In 1807 he married Sally Brady and came to East Hamburg in 1811; they had twelve children: Betsey, William, Mellissa, Hiram, Emma C., Amanda (who died at the age of eleven years), Sally, Ransom, Jane, Mary. Cordelia and Amanda 2d. Betsey married Peter Cooper, and they have three children, William, James and Mary; William married Mrs. Lorinda Allen; Hiram died in his twentysixth year; Jane married Andrew Drake, and they had two children, Helen (who died at the age of sixteen) and Frank; Mary died young; Cordelia married Alderson H. Caswell; Emma C. and Amanda are the farmers at home. Mr. Jones died in 1859, aged eighty years, and his wife on April 25. 1839. The grandfather of great-grandfather Jones came to the United States from Wales, England, consequently of Welch nationality.
