Hensler, Mrs. Eliza, Tonawanda -Emanuel Hensler was born in Germany, September 7, 1822, and came to the United States with his parents at nine years of age, and to Tonawanda in 1850 and was an officer in the Custom House, and owned a very large farm on Grass Island. He also conducted a large grocery business. At the time of his death he was largely interested in the lumber business. In 1845 he married Miss Eliza, daughter of Stephen Van Rensselaer Cummings, by whom he had eleven children. Mr. Hensler was one of the representative men of his town, serving as supervisor, collector and collector of customs. His death, which occurred in 1873, was a loss, not only to his family, but to all who knew him. Of him it may be said, "An honest man is the noblest work of God."
