Biography of Myron Graves


Graves, Myron, East Hamburg, p. o. Orchard Park, was born on the homestead opposite to where he now resides. December 7, 1829. He was educated in the district schools and follows the honorable occupation of farming. September 10, 1861, he married Orrilla R. Thurber of the town of Aurora, and they had four daughters: Hattie D., Rose B., Mary J. and Myra I. Rose B. and Myra I. are both dead. Hattie D. married Daniel Starkweather, and they have three children, Sarah, George and Lucy. - Mary J. married Michael Schichtel of the town of Lancaster, and they have three children, Ralph, Allen and Gertrude. Mr. Graves's father, Stephen R., was born in Vermont, June 29, 1805, and came to this State with his father when seven years old. He married Delana Perry of his native State. and they had seven children: Myron (as above), Merritt, Seth P., A. Minerva, Curtis L., William H. and Charles. Mr. Graves died in 1882 and his wife March 17, 1869. Myron Graves's grandfather, Gideon Graves, was born in Vermont, April 17, 1776. He married Carolina Scott of his native State. Mrs. Orrilla Graves's father, Seth K. Thurber, was born in Vermont in 1818. and came to this State when a young man. He married Harriet Darbee of the town of Aurora, and they had six children: Martha M., Orrilla R. (as above), Elizabeth, Seth F., Charles W. and Jedediah D. Mr. Thurber was killed in a charge on Fort Wagner in 1863. The first known of the Darbee family, three young married couples came from Vermont in 1816 and located in the town of Aurora.
