Mr. Gilfillan attended the public schools of Peoria, and Ingleside Academy at McDonald, Pa., and when sixteen entered Williams College, from which he was graduated in 1893. He then taught school in Peoria a year and afterwards came to Buffalo, where he took up the study of law in the Buffalo Law School, University of Buffa1o. He was admitted to the bar in July, 1896, and a few months later opened an office for the practice of his profession in the Mooney-Brisbane building. In the short time during which he has practiced law he has met with remarkable success. He has recently been associated with A. J. Sigman, esq., in an important murder trial, and it was largely due to their efforts that the defendant's life was saved. He has always been an active and staunch Republican.
