Biography of Frederick Deitz


Deitz, Frederick, Colden, was born in Germany, April 22, 1837, and came to America when twenty-three years old, locating first in Buffalo, then in Cattaraugus county, where he remained four years, and in March, 1871, moved on to the farm of 100 acres he now owns. April 8, 1864, Mr. Deitz enlisted in Co. E, 16th N. Y. Cavalry, and served until September. 1865. He was fighting Mosby's guerrila band most of the time, was at the battle of Culpepper, and Mr. Deitz, with two others of the same company, were among those who captured Booth. October 25, 1866, Mr. Deitz married Reck a Sedorf, and they had six children: Carl, Albert, Henry, Addie, Louise and Elmer. Mr. Deitz is a member of Colden Lodge No. 36, K O. T. M.
