Briggs, Miles P., East Hamburg, p. o. Orchard Park, was born in the town of Colden, Erie county, N. Y., January
17, 1843. The family moved to the town of Aurora when he was a child, where he was educated in the public schools;
he has been in the lumber trade at Spring Brook and East Hamburg many years, having saw mills in both places; he
is also one of the town's efficient farmers. August 24, 1867, he married Antoinette Wheeler, and they had four
children: Florence J., Frank W., Arthur L. and Robert P. Florence J. was educated in East Aurora Academy, and Frank
W. and Arthur L. are graduates of Bryant & Stratton's Business College of Buffalo, N. Y. Mrs. Briggs died March
29, 1890. Mr. Briggs was lieutenant in Co. I, 98th N. Y. Vols., and was honorably discharged at the close of the
war. In his political choice he is a staunch Republican; the family were of the Friends denomination. His father,
Benjamin Briggs, was born in Rhode Island about the year 1802, and came to this county with his mother when a boy.
In 1833 he married Ruth Buffum. and they had nine children: Mary, Sarah, Sophia, Richard, Miles P. (as above),
Elizabeth, Charlotte, Candace and Harriet. Mr. Briggs died in 1862 and his widow in 1893.
