Biography of John Bowers


Bowers, John, East Hamburg, p. o. Reserve, was born in Bavaria, Germany, December 8, 1830, where he was educated and was a farmer by occupation. July 12, 1849, he married Susanna Holman of his native place, and they emigrated to America the same year, locating in East Hamburg, N. Y. They had six children: Henry H., Conrad W., Louise B., John M., Kate C. and Hattie D. Henry H. married Josephine Reef (died in February, 1894), and they had five children, Amelia, Anna, Arthur, Henry and Herbert; Conrad W. married Anna Allen, and they have three sons, Clyde, Henry and Allen; Louise B. married Andrew Yox, jr., and they have two children, Laura J. and Milton D. Mr. Bowers's father, Adam Bowers, was born on the old homestead in Germany. and married Dora Genlein of his native place; they had four children: Valentine, John (as above). Margaret and Elizabeth. Mr., and Mrs. Bowers are both deceased. Mrs. Bowers's father, Baldazer Holman, was born in Bavaria, and married Margaret Struebel, and they had eight children: Andrew, Lawrence, John, Michael, Susanna (as above), Margaret, Mary and Dora.
