Biography of Arthur D. Bissell


Bissell, Arthur D., Buffalo, was born in New London, Oneida county, N.Y., January 10, 1844, and in 1852 removed to Buffalo with his parents. where he attended the public schools. He afterwards attended a boarding school at Clinton, N. Y., for three years and in 1863 entered Yale College, from which institution he was graduated in the class of '67. After graduating he returned to Buffalo and engaged in the transportation business on the Erie Canal, in which he was engaged for seventeen years. He was for four years collector of customs at the port of Buffalo. In 1889 he was elected vice-president of the People's Bank, which position he still occupies, being one of the original stockholders and organizers of the bank.
