Benning, Henry, East Hamburg, p. o. Ellicott, was born in Alton, Holland, September 16, 1825. He was educated
in their schools and came to America in the year 1851, locating first in Springville, afterwards in Buffalo. In
1854 he came to the town of East Hamburg, and October 11, 1859, he married Agnes Yakle of this town, formerly of
Germany. They had four children: Mary, Edward D., Annie R. and Lydia A. Mary married Adam Horn of Batavia, and
they have two children, Rosa L. and a baby boy not named; Edward D. married Lizzie Seim of the town of Aurora,
and they have five daughters, Edith E., Jessie K., Edna M., Lulu L., and Grace A.; Annie R. married Elsworth B.
Curtis of Webster's Corners, and they have three daughters, Ruth, Sarah and Lydia; the youngest daughter resides
at home. The family are members of the German Evangelical church and Mr. Benning has held the following offices
in church: Deacon, trustee, class leader and superintendent of Sabbath school. In his political choice Mr. Benning
is a thorough Republican and has resided on his homestead thirty-three years.
