Biography of Bennet Benning


Benning, Bennett, East Hamburg, p. o. Ellicott, was born in Alton, Holland, April 20, 1830, and was educated there. He came to the United States in the year 1847 and located in Buffalo, N. Y.; he was a gardener by occupation and remained in Buffalo six years, coming to the town of East Hamburg in 1854, where he purchased his present homestead. In that same year he married Margaret Hottenmyer of Buffalo, and they had four children: M. Oliver, Benjamin, William E. and D. Franklin. M. Oliver (died May 12, 1897) married Mary Herbst, and they have six children, George, Ida, Albert, Eugene, Lawrence and Esther. Benjamin married Lena Saltzman, and they have five children, Clara, Lydia, Alice, Frances and Ethel; William B. married Mary R. Beir, and they have one daughter, Margaret; D. Franklin married Hattie M. Field, and they have four children, William S., Ruth M., Frank B. and Frederick. Benjamin and family, William E. and family and the widow of M. Oliver belong to the Evangelical church. Bennett Benning has held the office of deacon, class leader and superintendent of the Sunday school.
