Barber, Theodore, East Hamburg, p. o. Ellicott, was born in the town of Hamburg before its division, August
6, 1826. He was educated in the log school house and afterwards in the district schools and follows the honorable
occupation of farming. February 14, 1858, he married Mervina Cartright, formerly, of England, and they had three
children: Emma, Lina C. and David, who died in his ninth year. Emma resides in the West and Lina C. married Franklin
Willard of East Hamburg. Mr. Barber's father, John Barber, was born in New Jersey in 1779; he came to Hamburg in
1804. He married Betsey Francis of Cayuga county, and they had eleven children: Annie, Roswell, David, Philetus,
Lyman, Ambrose, Theodore (as above), Polly, Eliza, Emily and John, who died young. Mr. Barber died in 1863 and
his widow in 1874. Mrs. Barber's father, William Cartright, was born in England in 1780. He married Mary A. Moss
of his native place, and they came to America in 1838. He died in 1854 and his widow in 1866.
