Thacher, Charles C., son of Mowry, born in Hornellsville, N. Y., March 27, 1847, finished his education at Alfred University. He learned the trade of printer in Kansas City and followed it for twenty years. He came to Elmira in 1869 as foreman of the Advertiser, in which capacity he served nine years, when he became proprietor of the Lawrence Herald of Lawrence, Kan. In 1885 he was selected manager of the Farmers Club Journal of Hornellsville, N. Y., and came to Elmira in 1889 to become assistant secretary of the Interstate Fair of that city. On June 23, 1869, he married A]mira, daughter of Dea. Nelson Lockwood, of Hornellsville, N. Y. They have had two daughters, Caroline L. and Nellie M. Mowry Thacher was the son of Nathaniel, who was the great grandson of the Rev. Peter, the first pastor of the Old South Church of Boston. Mowry thacher came with his parents to Hornellsville when four years old. He married Malinda Livermore, of Oneida County N. Y. They had eight children, viz.: Timothy D., Safford M., Lydia L., Eugenia M., Mary, Eugene Quincey, Charles C., and Georgiana.
