Biography of Jedediah M. Putney
Chemung County, NY Biographies





Putney, Jedediah M., was born in Vilinovia, Chautauqua County, N. Y., August 15, 1832. April 8, 1858, he began his railroad life with the New York, Lake Erie, and Western Railroad Company, then the New York and Erie. He served six months as breakman was fireman until 1859, and has since been engineer. June 1, 1858, he married Ruth A. Barns, of Tioga County, N. Y., and they had one son, William W., born May 29, 1859. William W. was educated in the graded schools with an academic course of four years. He has taught nine years in the Elmira Business College and resides at home with his father. Mrs. Putney died March 14, 1889, loved and respected by all. Mr. Putney's father, Solomon, was born in Oneida County and married Eunice Alden, by whom he had ten children, of whom five are living, viz.: Jedediah M., William W., Milton, Ellen, and Emma.
