Lowe, Cornelius W., was born in New Jersey and came to Big Flats in 1794, where he died at the age of eighty.
He married Phoebe Roberts, and their children were Nathan, Phoebes, Allie and Hannah (twins), Rebecca, and Joseph.
The latter was born at Big Flats in 1808 and cleared the homestead farm, where he remained until his death in 1860
at the age of fifty two. He married Julia A. Roberts, of Orange County, N. Y., September 25, 1834. She was born
May 1, 1809, a daughter of James and Mary (Coleman) Roberts, and in still living at the age of eighty three. They
had one daughter, Cynthia, who married Joseph R. Lowe, of Manchester, Eng., November 23, 1858, a son of Joseph
and Sarah Lowe. Their children are Nathan J., born June 11, 1861; Julia A., born January 2, 1806; Mary B., born
May 5, 18118; Helen M., born December 7, 1869; Charles A., born August 31, 1871; and Hattie O., born May 25, 1877.
William Lowe was an early manufacturer and merchant of earthenware at Elmira. James Roberts served in the War of
1812. Cornelius W. Lowe bought the home farm at $1.25 per acre, and paid for it by hauling salt from Syracuse to
Elmira and vicinity.
