Baker, Mark C., teacher of voice culture and singing in the Elmira College School of Music, is vice president
for Chemung County of the N. Y. S. M. T. A. and a member of the Voice Specialist Committee. He was born at Sullivan,
Pa., in 1857, studied with numerous teachers in this country, in England, and in Germany, has composed a number
of songs and part songs, and is well read and is One of the association’s leading members. He is also conductor
of choruses, tenor soloist, and teacher of voice culture and singing at the National Chautauqua at Washington.
June 10, 1881, he married Hattie B. Lathrop, of Waterbury, Conn. They have one son, Edwin L., born October 24,
1882. Mr. Baker has resided in Elmira seven years. He is organist and choirmaster of the First Presbyterian Church.
