Abbot, Aaron B., a native of Srnithville, Chenango County, N. Y., was born Septernber 1, 1818, was educated
in the public schools, and in early life was a farmer. He became a contractor and builder, and later a conductor
and foreman for the New York, Lake Erie, and Western Railroad Company, serving that corporation for seventeen years.
He came to Elmira in 1850. January 7, 1844, Mr. Abbot married Ann Eliza, daughter of Caleb P. Thurber, of Oxford,
Chenango County, N. Y. They have one daughter, Mary, who married John H. Holmes, of Cazenovia, Madison County,
N. Y. Mr. Holmes came to Elmira in 1881 and entered into business with H. O. Hayes under the firm name of Holmes
& Hayes. They deal in masons' supplies and are agents for King's Windsor plastering cement.
