BERNARD SCHILDHAUS - Among the successful real estate men of The Bronx is Bernard Schildhaus, who has been in
business there since about 1903, and has been established at his present address on One Hundred and Sixty third
Street since 1910. Mr. Schildhaus is Roumanian, and is the son of Isaac Ephraim and Sylvia (Meisels) Schildihaus,
his father, who was born in 1845 in Piatra, Roumania, and died November 19, 1915, having been engaged in the banking
business, operating his own bank in Piatra.
Bernard Schildhaus was born May 5, 1877, in Piatra, Roumania, and attended the public schools in his native land.
When he was eighteen, he began work in Vienna, Austria, as a salesman for an export and import house, and continued
this work for eight years, at the end of which time he determined to come to the Anited States. Apon arrival in
1901, he settled on the lower east side for about two years, and then moved to The Bronx and entered the real estate
business, in which he has been engaged ever since. Mr. Schildhaus has established a good business and a reputation
for reliability and is very highly regarded in the trade. He is a member of The Bronx Real Estate Board.
He married, on December 1, 1907, in The Bronx, Annie Kravetzky; and they have three children: Arnold, born October
14, 1908; Leon, born February 9, 1910; and Sylvia Sarah, born February 9, 1920.
