Biography of William A. Gibbs
Broome County, NY Biographies

WILLIAM A. GIBBS, for the past ten years, has been engaged in the grocery business in Union, New York, and during this time he has attained a place of esteem among his fellow citizens by virtue of his business qualities and upright methods. He was born the son of Ebenezer and Olive (Bean) Gibbs, June 24, 1874, in Broome county, and was brought up in the environment common to most country boys whose parents till the soil. He attended the schools of the district and learned the trade of shoemaker, which he followed for a period of ten years. At the end of this time he came to Union, and there purchased the grocery business, which he has since successfully conducted. Mr. Gibbs is very well known throughout the Town of Union, and through his geniality has made many friends. In politics he is a Republican, and while a staunch adherent to the principles of this party, he is not a seeker for office, preferring to perform his share of the public burden in the role of private citizen. Fraternally Mr. Gibbs affiliates with the Improved Order of Red Men, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and is an attendant of the Methodist church.

Mr. Gibbs married, April 30, 1920, in Union. New York, Hattie Nichols, daughter of Harvey Nichols. Mr. Gibbs has one son of a former marriage, Clyde Gibbs.
