JOHN ARTHUR ELDRED - One of the oldest business men now actively engaged in business in Endicott, New York,
John Arthur Eldred is also widely known in lumber circles throughout the entire county. He was born in Owego, May
11, 1854, son of Nelson and Beatrice (Cornell) Eldred. His father was a respected citizen of his day, engaging
in farming and performing his duties to society in a commendable manner.
As soon as John A. Eldred completed his education which he obtained in public schools of Owego, he entered on a
career which now is a most successful one. The lumber business has attracted his entire interest during his business
life; he has never digressed to follow any other occupation, and it is this concentration which has been the most
important factor in his success.
Mr. Eldred is one of the most substantial of Endicott's citizens, and is identified in an official manner with
the State Bank of Endicott His political connection is with the Republican party, and he has always been an ardent
worker in this party's interests. He has never formed any fraternal nor club affiliations, and is a consistent
member of the Endicott Methodist Church.
John Arthur Eldred married, December 15, 1902, Viola Heiman. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Eldred are: Alice, born
May 15, 1904; Vera, born January 8, 1909; Madonna, born December 25, 1912; and Jeanne, born August 1, 1919.
