ALEXANDER BROWN. Prominent among the early settlers of Winona county is the name of Alexander Brown. He was
born in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, August 29, 1814, and spent the earlier years of his life in that place. In
1838 he came to America, and almost immediately came west, settling near St. Croix Falls, which was then in the
territory of Wisconsin. In 1851 he came to Whitewater, where he has remained ever since. Mr. Brown has held many
local offices of position and trust, fulfilling their duties with rare tact and ability and to the satisfaction
of the public. He was married to Clara E. Hughes in 1845 and has four children, two boys and two girls.
