Owen O'Connor, one of the earliest settlers of Sheldon township, was born in Kilglass, County Roscommon, Ireland.
Coming to the United States in the later forties, he located first at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he resided for
a number of years. About 1852 he came to Houston county, taking a tract of wild land in Sheldon township, which
he subsequently developed into a good farm. There he died Jan. 9, 1874, respected in the community as a good neighbor
and citizen. He married Winifred Milligan, a native of the same locality in Ireland as himself. She survived him
many years, passing away Sept. 4, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. O'Connor. were the parents of five children: Mary Ann, Thomas
and Ellen (twins), John and Steven.
