W. J. Wheeler was born November 18th, 1819, in Kentucky, and passed his youth on a farm. During the spring of
1856 he came to Minnesota and located in what is now Waseca county and made a claim. In 1862 he came to Hastings,
ran a hotel one and one half years, then traded for a farm near Red Wing, Minnesota. Going to Eureka township in
1868, he tarried a short time; thence to Farmington where he purchased a house and resided some time. In 1880 he
located at Castle Rock, and has a general merchandise store. Married, in 1843, to Miss Elizabeth Turner. They have
eleven children living, five sons and six daughters.
