K. W. Taplin was born in St Lawrence county, New York, in 1838. During the fall of 1855, went to DeKalb county,
Illinois, and the next spring started for Hastings, Minnesota. He was a day laborer, also run a threshing machine
until 1860, then purchased forty acres of his present farm. He now has one hundred and sixty acres in Douglass,
also eight hundred acres in the Red River valley. Married Miss McLaughlin, in 1860, who has borne him six childred.
Mr. Taplin has held the office of town clerk seven years.
