H. E. Sanders, a native of Germany, was born in 1837. Came to America in 1854 and located at Greenfleld, Wisconsin,
where he learned the blacksmith's trade. His time was employed with farming, wood cutting and coopering, and in
1863, served nine months in the civil war. His first visit to Minnesota was made in 1866, and during the fall of
that year purchased eighty acres, a portion of his present farm, in Castle Rock township. He moved to his farm
the next year and has since added to it, until his estate comprises two hundred and fifty acres. His wife was Miss
Scheiterlein, married in 1867. Lydia, Gustave, Hermön, Katie, Lucy and Amelia are their offspring.
