F. A. Richards was born in Maine in 1844. He was reared on a farm, and in 1862 enlisted in the Nineteenth Maine
Infantry, and served three years; was in the battles of Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and several others. Was honorably
discharged at Augusta, Maine, in 1865. Came thence to Hastings and worked in a saw mill for three years, then engaged
in trucking business nine years. In 1878, started in the livery, having since continued. He formed a partnership
with Mr. Ferry, the firm known as Richards and Ferry. Married in 1869 to Anna A. Simmons. Ada, Mary, Etta and Ralph
are their children.
