Daniel O'Brien is a native of Kilkenny county, Ireland, born in 1839, was raised as a farmer. In 1858, came
to America with his father and settled in Rice county, Minnesota. Enlisted in 1862, with his two brothers in Company
H, Tenth Minnesota Volunteers, and served three years; was honorably discharged at Fort Snelling, in August, 1865.
He returned home and soon after bought one hundred acres in Empire township. He farmed until elected treasurer
of Dakota conty in 1876. Married Mary Casey in 1868. Their children are, Julia, Mary, Maggie Agnes, Matilda, Stephen
and Daniel.
