S. U. Greiner was born in Berks county, Pennsylvania, October 9th, 1839. He was reared in his native place and
learned the carpenter's trade. In 1859, removed to Minnesota and worked at his trade in different parts of the
state until 1862, then permanently settled in Hastings. Continued at his trade until 1864, then engaged in wheat
buying, and three years later returned to his trade. In 1877, became a partner of Mr. Johnson, the firm being Johnson
and Greiner, hardware dealers. Married, in 1868, to Sarah L. Johnson, who has borne him two children, Frank L.
and Harry S.
