J. P. Frye, of the firm of Meyer, Whitman and Frye, was born in Franklin township, Milwaukee county, Wisconsin,
April 16th, 1855. At the age of ten years removed to Pierce county, Wiscousin, remaining till 1872, and there received
his education. Locating at that time in Hastings, he elerked in a grocery two months, then taught school in Verinillion
six months. Returning to Hastings, he clerked for H. Gillitt four years, then became a partner of the firm of Meyer,
Whitman and Frye.
