Henry Butturif, the pioneer furniture dealer of Hastings, was born In Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, January
21st, 1828. He resided inhis native state until 1850, then removed to Muscatine, Iowa, and clerked in a furniture
store five years. In 1855 he came to Hastings and at once started in the furniture trade, bringing with him the
first furniture for sale in Dakota county. In 1864 he was engaged with others in the manufacture of furniture,
sash, doors and blinds. Although sustaining losses by fire in 1856 and twice in 1865, he is still prominent in
the business. He also owns several valuable farms, working some and renting others. Married in 1877 to Mary E.
Clark, of Columbus, Ohio.
