Alexander A. Barclay was born in Hartford, Connecticut, 1843. Came to Minnesota with his brother at the age
of twelve years and settled in Scott county. In 1861, he enlisted in Company C, First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry,
and at the expiration of the ninety day's term, re-enlisted in Company C, Fourth Minnesota, serving in the army
of the Tennessee through the war, participated in the leading battles of that army, among which were the siege
at Vicksburg, Atlanta, and on the "March to the sea." His command took part in the grand review at Washington
in June, 1865, and was finally mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky, in July of that year. Mr. Barclay returned
to Scott county, and in 1872, removed to his present home in Eureka township.
