William Ainsworth was born in Vermont in December, 1825. He was reared on a farm, and when sixteen years old
learned the carpenter's trade. Worked at it two years, then in 1843 came to Illinois. The following year removed
to iowa, stifi working at his trade until 1856, then came to Hastings, there being at that time only two stores
and one hotel. In 1859, bought a farm, now having one hundred and sixty acres. Married Miss Maria Ingram in 1855.
Mary is their only child.
