YOUNG, Leonard A., president Detroit Wire Spring Co.; born, Chicago, Jan. 31, 1877; son of James and Evelyn (Bennett) Young; father's folks were closely associated with William Penn and were among the earliest settlers of Pennsylvania; educated in Chicago public schools and night school; married, July 3, 1907, Ola Butcher, of Chicago. Obliged to work early in life; started shining shoes and selling papers; then on wagon as vegetable peddler, milk wagon, stock farm and dealing in stock horses; livery sale and exchange stable, later teaming; became salesman for the New Jersey Car Spring & Rubber Co., 1903; salesman diamond Rubber Co., Ventilated Cushion & Spring Co.; now president, treasurer and general manager Detroit Wire Spring Co., and president treasurer Canadian Cushion Spring Co., of Windsor, Can.; president The Durable Co., Universal Welding Co., Prince Nut Lock Co. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Served in Spanish American War, F Troop, 5th Cavalry. Republican. Baptist. 32° Mason, Shriner, Arab Patrol; member Gold Hats. Clubs: Detroit Athletic, Fellowcraft. Recreations: automobiling and general outdoor sports. Office: Plant 1, Detroit Wire Spring Co., Morrow and Marston Sta. Residence: 93 Rhode Island Ave., High land Park.
