VAN SCHAACK, William D., railway official; born, Galesburg, Ill., Sept. 18, 1872; son of Thomas B. and Harriet L. (Chapin) Van Sehaack; educated in public schools of Galesburg and at Knox College; married at Galesburg, June 21, 1898, Florence B. Wright; 3 children: Raymond, Gordon, Prances. Began active career as clerk in office of Chicago, Burlington & Quiney Ry., Galesburg, 1892, continuing until 1901; was chief clerk general freight department, Wisconsin Central By., Milwaukee, Wis., 1901-2, traveling freight agent, same road, 1902-3, New England agent, at Boston, 1903-6; has been general agent Wisconsin Central (now Soo Line) at Detroit since 1906. Republican. Presbyterian. Member Y. M. C. A., Gideons. Club: Detroit Transportation. Office: 612 Majestic Bldg. Residence: 150 Monterey Ave.
