VAN LEYEN, Albert J., engraving and electrotyping; born, Detroit, Sept. 10, 1857; son of John and Hendrina (Look) Van Leyen; educated Detroit public schools; Cooper Union, New York; completed studies in art schools of Berlin, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria; married, Minnie Ulrich, of Detroit, Feb., 1893; 3 children: Harold, Felita, Loyola. Began as engraver, 1880, working as journeyman; one of organizers of firm of Van Leyen & Hensler, 1882; then went abroad, returning to Detroit, 1886, and since continued under original title as Van Leyen & Hensler; secretary Van Leyen Realty Co. Catholic. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Member Knights of Columbus. Office: 2-10 Larned St. E. Resideuce: 304 Kirby Ave. W.
