B., King College, Bristol, Tenn., 1885; BD., Union Theological Seminary, Hampden-Sidney, Va., 1888; (D.D., Huron College, S.D., 1902, King College, Tenn., 1904); married, Jan. 15, 1890, Mary B. Forman, of Louisville, Ky.; children: Dorothy, Joseph A., Jr., Mary F. Ordained Presbyterian ministry, 1888; pastor Woodland Avenue Church, Louisville, 1888-91, Maryland Avenue Church, Baltimore, 1891-99, Hyde Park Church, Chicago, 1899-1911, 1st Church, Detroit, since Sept. 1, 1911. Director and member executive committee Charity Organization Society while at Baltimore; ex moderator Maryland Presbytery, and of Chicago Presbytory; ex president Presbyterian Ministers' Association of Chicago; member Church Federation Council of Chicago.
