NICHOLSON, Duncan, steamboat officer; born, Rochester, N. Y., July 1, 1850; son of Alexander and Mary Ann (Roy) Nicholson; educated in public schools of Rochester and Michigan; married at Windsor, Ont., 1873. Martha Katherine Kolfag (died, July 5, 1911); 3 children: Lillian Prances, Alice Mary (Mrs. John Eberlin, of Cleveland), Gerald. Began active career sailing on the lakes, 1865; became first officer, 1870, captain, 1871, and was master of various sailing vessels and steamboats, 1871-1903; has been superintendent Detroit, Belle Isle & Windsor Ferry Co. since 1903. Republican. Episcopalian. Member Masonic Order, A. O. U. W. Club: Transportation (Detroit). Recreations: reading and home. Office: 2-6 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Residence: 25 Chatham St. E., Windsor, Can.
