CHADSEY, Charles Ernest, superintendent of schools; born, Nebraska City, Neb., Oct. 15, 1870; son of Franklin and Sallie Maria (Barnum) Chadsey; A.B., Leland Stanford, Jr., University, 1892, A.M., 1893; A.M., Columbia University, 1894, Ph.D., 1807; (honorary Litt.D., Denver University, 1909); married, June 29, 1897, Callie Worth Price, of Durango, Colo.; one son, Charles Price. Principal Durango High School, 1894-97; superintendent city schools, Durango, 1897-1900; superintendent North Side schools, Denver, 1900-3; assistant city superintendent schools, 1904-7, superintendent city schools, Sept. 1, 1907-Aug. 1912, Denver; superintendent city schools, Detroit, since Aug., 1912. Lecturer on School Problems, University of Colorado, 1900-3; on administration and modern educational movements, University of Wisconsin, 1911. Member National Educational Association (president Department of Superintendence, 1912, member Educational Council); member Phi Delta Theta, Phi Beta Kappa; president Denver Philosophical Society, 1904; Colorado Teachers' Association, 1909. Republican. Cóngregationalist. Author: The Struggle Between President Johnson and Congress Over Reconstruction, 1897; also numerous articles in educational magazines. Office: 50 Broadway.
