CARPENTER, Elmer E., president Carpenter Chemical Co.; born, Cleveland, May 2, 1862; son of Otis H. and Adelia (Williams) Carpenter; educated in public schools and under private tutelage, Cleveland; married, Oct. 21, 1882, Marian Warner, of Gaylord, Mich. Began active career in general mercantile business in Gaylord, Mich., 1880; later added wholesale produce shipping and operated large stock farm; came to Detroit, 1892, and embarked in handling and shipping cattle; founded, 1898, Carpenter Chemical Co., manufacturers waterproof liquid court plaster, and still continues as president and manager; principal stockholder, and secretary and treasurer of the Seven Lake Stock Ranch, Otsego County, Mich. (corporation owning 8,240 acres); president East Cuba Plantation Co. (a $7,000,000 corporation, growing citrus fruits in Cuba). Republican. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Mason; Detroit Cornmandery No. 1, K. T.; Michigan Consistory; Moslem Temple, Mystic Shrine. Clubs: Nobntide, Rotary. Recreations: motoring, trout fishing. Office: 54 State St. Residence: 66 Park St.
