CANDLER, Thomas H., general contractor; born, Detroit, Feb. 17, 1864; son of Homer W. and Emma (Ellard) Candler; educated in public and high schools, Detroit; married, July 22, 1892, Florence Bice, of Detroit; three children: Edith Ellard, Russell Gordon, Marjorie Bice. Began active career in engineering department, Detroit City Iron Works, 1880, continuing five years; then served on the lakes as marine engineer, 1885-93; foreman Eagle Iron Works, 1893-95; chief engineer Detroit United Railway, 1895-8; treasurer and general manager since 1898, of Canler Dock & Dredge Co., established by father, 1878. Republican. Episcopalian. Mem. ber Detroit Board of Commerce, B. P. O. Elks. Recreations: motoring and boating. Office: 305 Moffat Bik. Residence: 359 Bewick Ave.
