BURNS, James Daniel, hotel proprietor; born, Detroit (Spring Wells), July 28, 1865; son of Peter and Hanorah (Calaghan) Burns; public school education; married at Lansing, Mieh., June 14, 1891, Kathleen Walsh; two children: James A. and Francis. Began active career in brick yards owned by his father; engaged in manufacture of brick with two brothers, under title of Burns Brothers, 18881904; served as sheriff of Wayne County, 1905-9; since proprietor of Burns Hotel. Member Detroit Board of Commerce, Detroit Hotel Association. Democrat. Catholic. Member Knights of Pythias, B. P. O. E., Harmonie Society. Recreation: baseball (president of the first American League baseball club in Detroit, 1900-1.) Office and Residence: cor. Bates and Cadillac Square.
