BROWNELL, Charles Albert, advertising; born, Westville, N. Y., Oct. 8, 1853; son of Joseph Brock and Mary (Millross) Brownell; descended from Thomas Brownell, Danbñry, Conn., 1630; educated public schools until thirteen; married, May 23, 1878, Mary Elizabeth West, of Tillsonburg, Ont., Can.; children: Nellie (died, 1880), Josephine (Mrs. R. A. Polhamus), Ruby (Mrs. R. G. Rudd), Blame, Edward W. and Daisy. Apprenticed at thirteen for three years to learn printer's trade; part owner and publisher The Bruce Reporter (weekly newspaper), Kineardine, Ont., 187578; dry goods salesman and commercial travler, 1878-80; joined advertising staff of Daily Tribune, Bay City, Mich., 1880; advertising manager and in department store business until 1898; in general advertising business, Detroit, since 1898; manager Detroit branch of J. Walter Thompson Co., of New York, since 1908. Member Detroit Credit Men's Association, Detroit Board of Commerce. Progressive. Presbyterian. Mason, K. T. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Athletic, Exchange, Adcraft. Recreations: traveling and fishing. Office: 409 Trussed Concrete Bldg. Residence: 114 King Avenue.
