BRIGGS, Claude Strait, manufacturer of automobiles; born, Battie Creek, Mich., Aug. 13, 1872; son of Elias Howell and Anne Eliza (Hoyt) Briggs; ancestors on paternal side settled in New England in the seventeenth century; educated in Plymouth High School, Battle Creek; married at Detroit, Nov. 26, 1901, Anne Virginia Hupp. Founded the Briggs Dental Co., 1901, of which is president; founded K-R-I-T Motor Car Co., 1909; sold holdings and withdrew in 1910 to join the United States Motor Co., becoming general manager of the Brush Runabout Co.; president and general manager of the Briggs Detroiter Co. since 1911, company being manufacturers of the "Detroiter" automobiles. Member Detroit Board of Commeice. Republican. Episcopalian. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Athletic, Detroit Boat. Recreations: automobiling and outdoor sports. Office: Holbrook Ave. and U. T. R. R. Residence: 17 W. Bethune Ave.
