BRADT, Samuel Southard, hotel proprietor; born, Saratoga County, N. Y. Nov. 28, 1857; son of William and Mahala (Southard) Bradt; common school education; married, Sept. 4, 1878, Hattie J. Fifleld, of Waterford, Mich.; two children: Carl L. (Houston, Tex.) and Ira L. (deceased). Parents were hotel keepers, and he engaged in same business ever since beginning of active career; commenced, 1876, at Cass Hotel, located on the present site of Wayne Hotel; clerk at the Cutler House, Grand Haven, Mich., 1880; chief clerk at the Oakland Hotel, St. Clair, 1881; cashier Brunswick Hotel, Detroit, 1882-83; then in hotel business at Waterford, Mich., eight years; Hotel Bryant, Flint, Mich., two years, Plantation Hotel, during the World's Fair, Chicago; San Marino Hotel, Southerland, Pla., seasons of 1893 and 1894; returned to Detroit, June 24, 1895, and with Fred Postal opened the Griswold Hotel, remaining nine years; manager Hotel Chippewa, Mackinaw Island, four years; one of the prpprietors Hotel Brunswick, Detroit, until sold his interests; proprietor Hotel Fairview since Apr. 2, 1911. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. Mason; member Knights of Pythias, B. P. O. Elks. Address: Hotel Fairview, Jefferson Ave. and Hillger St.
