BRACE, William Henry, retired; born, Cleveland, O., Apr. 3, 1834; son of William and Lucy (Reynolds) Brace; educated in public schools and Janesville (Wis.) Academy, graduating, 1852; married, Sinclairvile, N. Y., Mary Edmunds (died, Nov. 26, 1911); two children: William V. (deceased), Mary Louise (Mrs. W. W. Krag). Began active career, 1855, in wholesale grocery of W. Phelps & Bro., Detroit; became partner in the house, 1862, incorporated, 1886, and was president of Phelps, Brace & Co. until 1907, when the business was disposed of to Smart, Fox & Co., of Saginaw, Mich.; director Phelps, Krag & Co., importers of tea and coffee; director Michigan Wire Cloth Co., Michigan Mutual Life Insurance Co. Was member of the Detroit Light Guard for seven years. Republican. Methodist. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Mason. Club: Country. Recreations: boating, fishing and golf. Office: 43 West Jefferson Ave. Residence: 132 Bagg St.
