BISSELL, Lemuel Ballantine, clergyman; born, Ahmednagar, India, Dec. 20, 1853; son of Lemuel and Mary Elizabeth (Beaumont) Bissell; descended from John Bissell, of Somersetshire, Eng., who landed at Plymouth, Mass., 1628; Samuel Robinson, of Bristol, Eng., emigrated to America, 1725, and his daughter Anna married into Noah Webster family, from which came Mary E. Beaumont; arrived in America, Apr., 1864; graduated high school, Mt. Clemens, Mich, 1870; A.B., Western Reserve College, Hudson, O., 1876; B.D., Yale Divinity School, 1880; married, Oct. 20, 1880, Anna Augusta Wolcott, of Hudson, O.; children: Mary E. (Mrs. D. E. Bates), Florence W. Ordained in Presbyterian ministry, 1880; pastor Memphis, Mich., 1880-82, Caro, 188290, Monroe, 1890-99, Lansing, 1899-1903, Traverse City, 1903-7, Cadillac Avenue Church, Detroit, since 1907. Progressive. Member Phi Beta Kappa (Alpha Chapter, Ohio). Mason; member I. O. O. F., I. O. F., Knights of Golden Eagle. Author: Presbyterian Pulpit -Synod of Michigan, 1898.
