BERMAN, Bernard, wholesale clothing; born, Suvalk, Russia, Apr. 28, 1858; son of Simon and Leah Berman; educated in Hebrew College, Russia; married, Aug. 21, 1877, Leba Supnitzky; eleven children: Saul, Julius (lieutenant Michigan state militia), Frank, Hyman, Jeanette (Mrs. Harry Fine), William, Louis, Tillie, Isadore, Abraham, Esther. Began active career in the hide business in the old country, following same until coming to America; emigrated to the United States, 1885; located for short time at New York City; moved to Windsor, Out., Can., and engaged in selling goods; came to Detroit, 1890, and has engaged in the manufacturing and jobbing of clothing since 1892, firm of B. Berman & Co. Republican. Hebrew religion. Member Civic League. Member Order B'rith Abraham. Recreation: reading. Office: 257 Gratiot Ave. Residence: 175 Elizabeth St.
